When?

Pick the week that works for your family.

Easter: 27 Mar – 3 Apr 2027 ✓

Good snow (early Easter), long warm days, cheaper than half term, big chalets still free.

Easter week 2: 3 – 10 Apr

Good backup. Slightly more snow risk, so go high.

Feb half term: 13 – 20 Feb

Best snow but the most expensive and busiest week (French and Dutch holidays too). Most 20-bed chalets are already sold.

New Year: 26 Dec – 2 Jan

Festive, but peak price and early-season snow.

Checked against RBWM, Buckinghamshire, Borlase, St Piran's and Herries term dates.

Where?

All four shortlisted resorts are in the French Alps (Savoie and Haute-Savoie), reached from Heathrow via Geneva or on a charter from Heathrow/Gatwick.

How we picked

  • One chalet, or two side by side, for 16–20 people
  • Great for kids 5–15 of every level, with English-speaking ski school
  • Enough for the keen adults all week
  • A real village for evenings, but not a party resort
  • Spa, pool and walks for non-skiers
  • Snow you can count on in a school-holiday week
  • Easy from Hurley, ideally Heathrow

Why France

France has the biggest linked ski areas, the most large catered chalets run by UK family operators, and high resorts that keep their snow at Easter. Austria and Italy have far fewer chalets for 20.

Ruled out: Val Thorens and Mayrhofen (party scenes), Tignes (concrete, little beginner terrain), Verbier and Zermatt (not for beginners, very expensive), St Anton (party resort, tough blues), Kitzbühel (low, risky at Easter), Obergurgl (few catered chalets).

How France compares with other regions

One good family resort from each other major region, scored on the same brief. Comparison only, not on the ballot. Weights: Easter snow 20 · big catered chalets 15 · kids & ski school 15 · travel from Hurley 15 · skiing for all levels 15 · evenings & non-ski 10 · value 10.

The main reason the others fall short: very few catered chalets for 20 run by UK operators outside France, so the group would be in hotels or split across apartments.

Which chalet?

🔒 Pick a resort in Stage 2 to unlock.

All catered, so every chalet comes with hosts or a chef who cook and clean. Prices are for Easter week, checked on 11 Oct 2026, and change daily.

Score out of 100, default weights: value for money 25 · snow at Easter 15 · kids & family 15 · ease of travel 15 · chalet fit for 20 10 · village & evening life 10 · spa & relaxing 10. Costs are per person for the week; amber = estimate, green = included.

Ski Blanc and Chalet des Montagnes rent the whole chalet, so the group sets the adult/child split. The example assumes 10 adults and 10 children, with children paying 70%. Esprit Ski and Powder White no longer trade. Le Ski's Chalet Rikiki and Skiworld's Riva are sold out for Easter.

What would it cost your family?

£–

Estimate only. Euros are converted at about 87p. Where flights aren't included they're estimated at ~£350 per person return (BA Heathrow–Geneva on Easter Saturday, with a hold bag and skis; easyJet from Gatwick can be ~£100 less), and Méribel transfers at ~£140 per person (Ski Blanc's private Geneva minibus, ~€805 each way per 12–16 people). Ski school, equipment hire and in-resort childcare are extra.

Next steps

  1. Vote by Sunday 18 October, with your head count, ages, and who skis or boards.
  2. Warren confirms the week and resort from the votes.
  3. Hold the chalet. Ski Blanc gives a free 48-hour hold, then a 20% deposit, with the balance due mid-January. Ski Famille's deposit is £225 per person.
  4. Book flights straight away if they're not included.
  5. Book ski school before Christmas, because Easter classes fill early.
  6. Take out winter-sports travel insurance when you book.

Warren is researching and booking the chalet, coordinating flights, transfers and ski school, and managing deposits for the group. There is a flat £100 per family organiser fee, and each family pays the operator directly for its own places.
